      see bug 82 for the reason for this request.

      basically, because you use velocity, which is primarily intended for HTML, and so does funny things with whitespaces (see http://www.freebok.net/help/velocity10.html), then so should be xwiki.

      for example, it seems that "tags" like '1.1' are only handled (as headings) if they start at a new line. I think they should be handled like headings anywhere. maybe this requires adding some special "xwiki" tags. so not just any '1.1' is handled as a heading. maybe [1.1 My Heading]
