    Description

The chartjs and tableToChartJS macros draw their chart with JavaScript in a canvas. In the WYSIWYG editor the canvas stays blank, with no placeholder and no text, so nothing tells the user that a chart is there or what it shows.

The macros to change, with the file where most of the fix is done:

What the macros could show in the editor: a frame with the icon of the chart type and a summary of the chart, like "Pie chart" with the source of its data, the table of the content for tableToChartJS, or the chart itself if Chart.js can be run in the editor.

      Depends on

      • XWIKI-25523, which gives the macros a supported way to know they are rendered for the WYSIWYG editor and a shared edit-mode representation to reuse.

      KOs covered

      Macro Criterion Problem Depends on
chartjs E1 wysiwyg The editor shows an empty block of about 155 pixels: the canvas stays blank, with no chart, no placeholder and no text, while view mode draws the chart with its legend. XWIKI-25523
tableToChartJS E1 wysiwyg The editor shows the table and a blank area in place of the chart, with no placeholder and no text, while view mode draws the chart with its legend. XWIKI-25523

      Impact found on macro fluidity

These 2 KOs come from the WYSIWYG usability audit of the macros, under the criterion E1 wysiwyg of its usability criteria, which accepts a dedicated edit representation that keeps the meaning of the macro. The page of each macro, linked in the table, has the full notes and the steps to reproduce. Fixing them means giving the macros an edit-mode representation built on XWIKI-25523.
