(post-release) Monitoring tool's appserv log-tailer fails to quit and starts retention

It appears that the current monitoring tools call a tail over ssh to get the system out and system err but, when the appserver restarts, the tail are not properly closed hence start retention.

We had a disk full yesterday because of that.
The current workaround is to kill the tails that hang since long after a restart.
