Comments from Joshua on this:
There is an important distinction between different types of styles that needs to be clearly understood. There are two different types of style tags: There are paragraph styles and character styles. A paragraph style applies (Or more accurately should apply) to the entire select paragraph (The text contained between carriage returns.) These include text alignment and header styles. While character styles (Like bold, underline, ital, strike, font, size, etc.) are for the selected characters.
The problems come when two different things happen:
A) Nesting - When you put one style tag set (Open and close) within another style tag set.
B) Spanning - Where one style tag set open is inside another open/close pair BUT its corresponding close tag is after
the other close so the two styles overlap.
Ludovic, Vincent et al, please help make sure these rules are correct and describe how the editor should work:
1) You can not nest or span paragraph styles- The editor should change the perhaps style for any and all selected
paragraphs when a new paragraph style is selected. If multiple paragraphs are selected (In whole or in part) when
a new paragraph style is selected, each paragraph gets an open and close style independently.
2) You can both nest and span character styles, but you can not span characters styles across paragraphs of different
paragraph style. In such cases, if a select crosses a paragraph style tag, the character style options should be
grayed out.
3) You can not apply some character styles inside some paragraph styles. Specifically numbered and bulleted and
tables have limitations (Ludovic, please list these so we can test). In general any styles that can cause a problem in
lists and tables and elsewhere should not be available (Grayed-out).
