Search results not showing up unless go is clicked twice

Step 1 - Do not log in as a member
Step 2 - Enter a search term into the header
Step 3 - Select Go

Bug
It generated a results page, but without seeing any results listed. If I click Go again, I do get results. Relatedly, the term I searched from the header box is not appearing in the search terms box in the body until the second attempt and results generation.

Note: This bug was very hard for me to repeat. There is some edge case happening here that I can't pin down 100%.
