Improve widget opening / closing transition

The transition / animation for opening and closing the widget should take at most 300ms, otherwise it feels slow.

While the current transition is interesting, it sometimes feels choppy. I propose having a simple fade in for the whole widget when it is opened, and fade out when it is closed.
