The WYSIWYG editor for Markdown misplaces underscores when a space is included

Create a new document in the Markdown WYSIWYG editor, write

     Foo bar

now select "Foo" and the following space, and set that range to italic.

Preview: I see

    _Foo _bar

Get back to edit: I see again

    _Foo _bar

and no italic.
