Very often a replication conflict won't lead to a new merged version simply because after doing the 3 ways merge the new version is identical to the previous one (the main reason being that for each conflict in the document the priority is given to the current version).
Still, even if there is no change it's still interesting to see clearly in the history that there was a replication conflict and when.
