Topics are not sorted by date on initial view

When viewing a forum the sort order displayed is "by date, descending", which makes sense to me (the newest posts come first).

However the actual sort order of the topics does not show that ordering; one has to click "Date" twice to get them sorted by date (first click sorts them ascending, i.e. oldest first, the second one does the actual sort).
