    Description

The "Add a new page" button doesn't relates to the current page and therefore shouldn't be located at the same level as Edit, actions and more actions . (a "+" at the same level should designate something we add in the page, not a new page.

[XE-1587] The "Add a new page" button is not at the right place

I agree, for the current skin we won't change this again

I propose to close this issue as "won't fix".

Yep I agree too with the rationale explained by mflorea

The "Add a new page" button doesn't relate to the current page

It does relate. Most of the time it actually means "Add a new child page" (of the current page). When the current page is terminal it means "Add a new sibling page" (of the current page). The only exception is on the home page of the wiki, because we wanted to let uses create top level pages easily. But that's an exception so I wouldn't move the + button just for that.

Over the years we had several locations for the 'Add/Create' button and several proposals for naming/location/etc.

Since we don't quite measure the changes is hard to tell what is the best solution. The main advantage of XWiki is that it's customizable, so our users can create customs skins to have the desired button location or use other community provided skins. But the main question remains: what should be the default behavior?

            Some old examples:

The last time we changed the Add button was in XWIKI-12189 with this proposal http://design.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Proposal/NestedAdd .

We can try to improve it again, but it would be great to know what are the main problems with the current position (except of stating that some other software products do something else). I don't remember any issues created by community members that they had problems with the new layout (and the change was done more then 1 year ago). An idea would be to send a survey or ask for feedback from the community about the 7.x changes compared to 6.x.

I think the reason Edit is first is because it's the most common action. You edit more than you create.

Maybe the current position of the add button is not perfect position between edit (related to the current document) and the wheel (related to the current document).
The add button position could be changed before the edit button? after the 3 points button? Or another position + a highlight to make the user understand it's the add button, not current document related?

            oh no, not again

We've been through this countless times and we've changed it based on lots of feedback.

So please substantiate the need by some hard figures since we're not going to play yo-yo every year. We need some hard proof that it was better when we had the create menu at the top.

Confluence and Jira put the "Add a new page" in the Header (see attached). Seems to be a current pattern.
