Currently, for backward compatibility reason, we have a mapping between Silk and Font Awesome (+ a fallback on silk when the corresponding icon does not exists in Font Awesome). So every application that used to have an icon with the Silk icon set is not broken when we use the Font Awesome icon theme.
But, in my opinion, this is not enough. It would be better to create a list of supported icons, that XWiki supports, for which we create a mapping to silk/flamingo/whatever.
So in every place where we propose to insert an icon (see XWIKI-11102), we do not show the Silk list but the new XWiki list.
Currently we display the silk list in:
- the last step of the AWM wizard
- in extensions.xwiki.org, when we select an icon for the extension
