Description
I know the rise and fall of an extendable platform is deeply connected with a 'like barometer' of fancy features. That means the extensions overview in the extension manager as well on the xwiki.org-page needs a rating and advice system.
Nowdays if i browse extensions for xwiki, i found a alphabetically sorted list of plugins, some with description, some without. And there is no need for me to try an extension that effort i just get after installing it. There is no need to explore and play. And users want to play - also admins
Conclusion:
- users should be able to do a five star rating of an extension
- ratings and downloads should be tracked centrally (db)
- users sould see the download amount and common rating
- the common rating should be respecting new versions and a (fixed) time span to the past
- extensions with many good ratings or a higher download amount should be adviced on the main page
- user comments would be nice
I think thats also a good way to separate extensions with a rare and specific domain from very handy extensions for the mainstream.
(PS: i had already wrote that idea on facebook months ago. maybe there is also a tiket on jira, that i haven't found via search.)
