Better way to handle advanced search options

It would be very nice if we could find a better way to handle the advanced search options than clicking on the small arrow from the end of the search input.
I asked several people to filter results for a search they performed and nobody clicked on the arrow. It either isn't sufficiently visible or suggestive enough. The options are not sufficiently visible.
