Search does not work for words ending in "e" or "E" when using the wildcard

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a page (or Edit an existing one) and in the content of the page add a word which ends in either "e" or "E" (it does not seem to matter) and save the page. For example, engine
2. In the XWiki searchbar, search for the word using the wildcard symbol, * (i.e. engine*)

Expected result:
The search results displays, among the results, the page containing our word.

Actual result:
The page containing our word is not among the search results returned

Additional information:

The issue seems to also happen for Titles and comments
When searching for:
the word ending in "E", or "e" without the wildcard, results are displayed
words not ending in "E" or "e", using the wildcard, results are displayed
part of the word using the wildcard (i.e. engi*), results are displayed

I've tested and reproduced on 16.10.11, 16.10.12, 16.10.14(current LTS), 17.9.0 (current stable) and 14.10.20.
