German translation in Panels application triggers icon

Steps to reproduce:

1. Set the language of the wiki to German
2. Go to the "Menüleisten" (Panels) Application

Expected result:

The translation "Du kannst die Seitenspalte(n) mit {0} anpassen" is displayed (with a link to the panel wizard).

Actual result:

Instead of the text "(n)", a smiley is displayed.

Translator shouldn't need to know about the icon transformation, translations should always be displayed as plain text.
